FAQ
Questions people ask before they sign.
Who reviews my documents?
A licensed Illinois attorney at Stewart Law Group reviews every plan before your signing.
Is a will signed over video valid in Illinois?
Yes. The Electronic Wills and Remote Witnesses Act allows a will to be signed and witnessed through live audio-video communication when its requirements are followed. We run the session to meet them.
Where is my original kept?
With you. We don't keep your signed originals. Full estate plans and trust plans arrive as a bound binder of signed originals by UPS. Will Only and power-of-attorney-only orders are delivered electronically for you to download and print, with nothing shipped. If a document is signed electronically, we tell you in writing where the electronic record is kept and how you or your executor can get a certified paper copy.
Do I need to find my deed or legal description?
No. For a transfer-on-death instrument or a deed into your trust, we look up the vesting deed, legal description, and parcel number from the county records. If the records don't match what you told us, we'll contact you before drafting.
What does the recording fee cost?
It's set by your county recorder. We charge the county's actual fee plus a $10 e-recording fee for each document we record, to the card you used at checkout. We show an estimate at checkout before you pay.
What if my life changes?
A codicil or plan update is $99 and includes a new signing session.
What if I need to reschedule my signing?
You can reschedule once at no charge if you do it at least 24 hours before the start time. A $50 fee applies if you miss a scheduled signing, reschedule with less than 24 hours' notice, or reschedule a second time. It's charged to the card you used at checkout.
How fast is a rush signing?
Rush signing is a good-faith target, not a guarantee: we make every reasonable effort to hold your signing within 48 business hours after your questionnaire is complete. County recording isn't expedited. If you face a medical emergency, contact an attorney in your area right away.
Why does the signing ask for a photo of my face?
The notary platform may compare a live image of your face to your ID photo to confirm it's really you. That's the only biometric data collected, and only with the written release each signer signs at checkout. If you decline, you sign in person at our office instead. See the biometric notice in our Privacy Policy.
How long does shipping take?
Binders ship by UPS for a flat $19.99, usually within a week of your signing (or of recording, if we're recording a deed for you). You'll get tracking by email.
Who isn't a good fit?
Blended families where either spouse has children from a prior relationship, and estates near the Illinois estate tax threshold, deserve a full-service attorney; the Plan Finder will route you to a consultation. For some other situations, such as a beneficiary with special needs or a business with transfer restrictions, you can still order online, and an attorney reviews your information before anything is drafted.
Can I get just a will?
Yes. Will Only is $199 per person and includes attorney review and the remote signing. Your signed will is delivered electronically, with no printed binder and no shipping charge. A will works only after death; it does not name anyone to make money or medical decisions if you are alive but unable to. The Will-Based Estate Plan adds powers of attorney for that.
I already have a will. Can I get just powers of attorney?
Yes. If you already have a will or trust, you can order a financial power of attorney or a health care power of attorney for $149 each, or both for $200, per person. Each includes attorney review and the remote signing, and is delivered electronically with no shipping charge.
Can I talk to an attorney before I buy?
Yes. A 30-minute online consultation by video is $95, paid when you book. The fee is separate and isn't credited toward a plan if you buy one. Book a consultation.
Do you serve Missouri?
Not yet. Missouri plans are coming soon.
