Legal
Terms of Service
Effective date: October 22, 2026.
1. Who We Are and How These Terms Work
1.1 Two parties. SignMyWill.com and its related websites (the "Site") are operated by SLG Digital LLC (the "Company," "we," "us"). The Company provides the Site, scheduling, signing-session, document-assembly, printing, shipping, and recording-coordination services. The Company is not a law firm and does not provide legal services or legal advice.
Legal services offered through the Site are provided by independent law firms that contract with the Company to use the Site (each, a "Law Firm"). The Law Firm that will represent you is identified by name and address before you pay and in your Engagement Agreement (your "Firm"). Your Firm is matched to you based on the state where you live or where your property is located; the Company does not accept payment from any Law Firm to recommend it over another. Each Law Firm is solely responsible for the legal services it provides. Attorneys of your Firm, not the Company, review and approve every estate planning document prepared for you. The Company does not direct or control any Law Firm's professional judgment and does not share in any Law Firm's legal fees.
1.2 Agreement. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Site. By using the Site, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.
1.3 Engagement Agreement controls legal services. If you purchase a plan, you will be asked to accept a limited-scope engagement agreement with the Firm (the "Engagement Agreement") before you pay. The Engagement Agreement governs the legal services the Firm provides to you, including fees, refunds, the scope of representation, and the Firm's duties to you. If these Terms conflict with the Engagement Agreement, the Engagement Agreement controls.
1.4 No legal advice until you are engaged. The Plan Finder (our plan screener), plan comparisons, guides, articles, prices, and other content on the Site are general information. They are not legal advice and are not a substitute for advice from an attorney about your circumstances. Using the Site, completing the Plan Finder, or contacting us does not create an attorney-client relationship.
An attorney-client relationship with the Firm begins only when all of the following have occurred: (a) you accept the Engagement Agreement; (b) you pay the fee; and (c) the Firm completes its conflict-of-interest check and confirms it can represent you. If the Firm cannot represent you, it will tell you and refund your payment as the Engagement Agreement provides.
1.5 Information you share before you are engaged. The Firm treats information you submit through the Plan Finder or checkout as confidential information of a prospective client and uses it only to evaluate whether it can represent you and to review the plan you select. Do not submit information about another person's legal matter or information you are not authorized to share.
1.6 Attorney advertising. Portions of the Site may be considered attorney advertising. Past results do not guarantee a similar outcome.
2. Eligibility, Accounts, Orders, and Payment
2.1 Eligibility. To purchase a plan you must (a) be at least 18 years old and legally able to make a will and other estate planning documents; (b) reside in, or own the real estate covered by your plan in, a state where a Law Firm offers services through the Site (the states currently served are listed on the Site); and (c) order documents for yourself or, for a married couple, for yourselves. You may not order documents for another person. A family member or advisor may help you use the Site, but you must answer the questions, accept the Engagement Agreement, and sign your documents yourself.
2.2 Plans that are not a fit. Our plans are designed for straightforward estates. The Site does not recommend a plan; you choose the plan. Some situations fall outside the online service, and the Site will offer a consultation instead. After review, the attorney may advise a different plan or full-service representation. The Firm may decline any order in its professional judgment.
2.3 Accounts. You may receive a secure sign-in link by email to return to your order. Keep access to your email account secure. You are responsible for activity under your account and must tell us promptly at info@signmywill.com if you believe someone has accessed it without permission.
2.4 Accurate information. You agree to give complete and accurate information and to update it before signing if anything changes. Your documents are prepared from the information you provide. Inaccurate or incomplete information may make your documents fail to carry out your wishes.
2.5 Prices and payment. Prices are stated in U.S. dollars and are shown, itemized, before you pay. Fees for legal services are charged by the Firm and paid to the Firm under the Engagement Agreement. Payments are processed by a third-party payment processor; we do not store your full card number. Discount codes apply only to professional fees, cannot be combined unless stated, have no cash value, and do not apply to rush service.
2.6 Pass-through costs. County recording fees, state filing fees, and similar government charges are not included in plan prices. They are shown as estimates before you pay and charged later at actual cost; each document recorded with a county also carries a $10 e-recording fee. By completing checkout, you authorize the Firm to charge the payment method you saved at checkout for these costs when they are incurred.
2.7 Rush service. Where offered, rush service is a good-faith target, not a guarantee: the Firm will make every reasonable effort to complete your signing within 48 business hours after your intake is complete. Rush service does not expedite county recording. If you face an emergency, such as a serious illness or imminent surgery, contact an attorney in your local area immediately.
2.8 Cancellations and refunds. Your right to end the engagement and any refund are governed by the Engagement Agreement. In summary, you may end the engagement at any time, and the Firm will refund the portion of the fee for services not yet performed, as the Engagement Agreement describes, less costs already paid to third parties. The $95 online consultation is governed by the Consultation Terms presented when you book it.
3. Signing Sessions and Delivery
3.1 Scheduling. After the Firm approves your documents, you will confirm a signing appointment. Signings take place by secure audio-video session on a third-party remote signing platform or in person at the Firm's office. You may reschedule your signing once at no charge if you do so at least 24 hours before the scheduled start time. A $50 fee applies if you do not attend a scheduled signing, if you reschedule less than 24 hours before it, or for each reschedule after the first. You authorize that fee to be charged to the payment method you saved at checkout.
3.2 Identity verification and recording. To protect you against fraud, each signer must present a current government-issued photo ID and complete identity verification on the signing platform. Verification may include analysis of your ID and a comparison of your live face to your ID photo. That comparison, made by the notary platform, is the only way biometric data is collected for your order. Each signer is asked to sign a separate written Biometric Information Release, described in our Privacy Policy, together with the Engagement Agreement at checkout. No facial comparison occurs without it; a signer who declines signs in person at the Firm's office instead. Remote sessions are recorded as the law requires, and the recording is kept for the period the law requires (in Illinois, at least seven years).
3.3 Your conduct at signing. During a signing you must be alone in the room unless the notary permits otherwise, sign of your own free will, and be able to understand what you are signing. The notary, the witnesses, or the Firm may stop or postpone a session if any of them has concerns about identity, capacity, pressure from another person, or the technical quality of the session.
3.4 Witnesses. The signing platform's witnesses are used unless you arrange your own. Any witness you supply must be at least 18 years old, present a photo ID, and not be a beneficiary under your documents or the spouse of a beneficiary.
3.5 Recording of deeds. If your plan includes a transfer on death instrument or deed, it will be submitted for recording with the county recorder after signing. Recorded documents become public records. A transfer on death instrument has no effect unless it is recorded before the owner's death.
3.6 Delivery. Signed documents are delivered as follows:
| Plan | Delivery |
|---|---|
| Full estate plans and trust plans | Bound binder of signed originals, shipped by UPS |
| Will Only | Delivered electronically for you to download and print; nothing is shipped |
| Financial power of attorney, health care power of attorney, or both, without a will or trust plan | Delivered electronically for you to download and print; nothing is shipped |
| Signed at the Firm's office | Delivered to you at the office |
Signed originals are sent to you. Unless your Engagement Agreement provides otherwise, neither the Company nor your Firm keeps your signed originals. You are responsible for storing them safely and telling your named fiduciaries where to find them. For documents signed electronically, you will receive instructions on how the electronic record is kept and how to obtain a certified paper copy.
4. Your Responsibilities, Electronic Records, and Use of the Site
4.1 Review your documents. Read your documents before you sign and ask the Firm about anything you do not understand. Your plan controls only what it covers. Retirement accounts, life insurance, and accounts with payable-on-death or transfer-on-death designations pass by their own beneficiary designations, and assets must be retitled to fund a trust. Follow the funding checklist provided with your plan.
4.2 Keep your plan current. The Firm has no duty to update your plan after the engagement ends, including after changes in the law or in your family, finances, or residence. Review your plan after major life events.
4.3 Electronic communications and signatures. You consent to receive agreements, notices, disclosures, and other communications from us and the Firm electronically, by email or through the Site, and agree that they satisfy any requirement that they be in writing. You agree that typing your name, checking a box, or signing on a signing platform is your legal signature to the extent permitted by law. You may request a paper copy of any agreement by contacting us. You need a device with internet access, a current web browser, a working camera and microphone for remote signings, and a valid email address.
4.4 Text messages. By providing a mobile number and checking the box at checkout, you agree to receive appointment reminders and order-status text messages from the Company and your Firm. Consent is not a condition of purchase. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help.
4.5 Acceptable use. You may not: (a) use the Site for anyone other than yourself or your spouse ordering with you; (b) give false information or impersonate another person; (c) attempt to access another person's order or account; (d) interfere with, scrape, reverse-engineer, or overload the Site; (e) upload malicious code; or (f) use the Site for any unlawful purpose.
4.6 Intellectual property. The Site, its software, design, text, the Plan Finder, and the document forms are owned by the Company, the Law Firms, or their licensors and are protected by law. Once your fee is paid, you may use, copy, and record your own completed documents for your personal estate planning. You may not copy, resell, or reuse the forms or Site content for anyone else.
5. Third Parties, Disclaimers, and Limits of Liability
5.1 Third-party services. The Site relies on independent providers for payment processing, scheduling, remote signing and notarization, e-recording, shipping, hosting, and email. Their services are subject to their own terms. We are not responsible for their acts or omissions, but we select them with care and require them to protect your information.
5.2 Related businesses. A Law Firm, or its owners, may hold an ownership interest in the Company or in a service provider used for your order, such as an e-recording or title company. Your Firm will disclose any such relationship in your Engagement Agreement. The Company's signing, printing, shipping, and recording-coordination services are not legal services, and the protections of an attorney-client relationship do not apply to them.
5.3 Disclaimer. EXCEPT AS STATED IN THESE TERMS OR THE ENGAGEMENT AGREEMENT, THE SITE AND THE COMPANY'S SERVICES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE COMPANY DISCLAIMS ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SITE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE. No one can guarantee how a court, agency, or financial institution will treat your documents, or the tax or other results of your plan.
5.4 Limitation of liability. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE COMPANY WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SITE, AND THE COMPANY'S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SITE OR ITS SERVICES WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE ORDER GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM.
5.5 Legal services are not limited. Nothing in these Terms limits any Law Firm's professional responsibility or liability to you for the legal services it provides, or any right you have under the rules of professional conduct governing attorneys.
5.6 Indemnity. You agree to indemnify the Company against third-party claims, losses, and reasonable attorney's fees caused by your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the Site, or false information you provide. This section does not apply to claims arising from a Law Firm's legal services.
6. Disputes and General Terms
6.1 Talk to us first. If you have a concern, contact us at info@signmywill.com. We will try to resolve it within 30 days before either side starts a formal proceeding. Concerns about legal services or legal fees should be directed to your Firm and are governed by your Engagement Agreement.
6.2 Governing law and venue. These Terms are governed by Illinois law, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any lawsuit relating to these Terms or the Site must be brought in the Circuit Court of St. Clair County, Illinois, or the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, and you and we consent to those courts' jurisdiction. Either party may bring an individual claim in small claims court if it qualifies. This section does not apply to disputes between you and your Firm about legal services, which are governed by your Engagement Agreement.
6.3 Changes to these Terms. We may update these Terms. The updated Terms will be posted on the Site with a new effective date and apply from that date. Changes do not affect an order you have already paid for, which remains governed by the Terms and Engagement Agreement in effect when you accepted them.
6.4 Suspension and termination. We may suspend or end your access to the Site if you breach these Terms or misuse the Site. Ending your Site access does not by itself end an engagement with the Firm; the Engagement Agreement governs that. Sections 1.4, 1.5, 4.6, 5, and 6 survive termination.
6.5 General. These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and (if you purchase a plan) the Engagement Agreement are the entire agreement about the Site. If any provision is unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them to a successor of the Company's business, but the Firm's obligations to you under the Engagement Agreement are not assigned without your consent.
